Leadership Screening

The Leadership Screening is a scientifically grounded organizational diagnostic procedure that quickly and reliably shows where and to what extent leadership in your company unnecessarily binds attention.

The focus is not on assessing individual leaders, but on identifying where and to what extent leadership in your company unnecessarily binds attention.

An efficient screening

Selected leaders and employees answer a small number of structured questions. Within a short time, a report is available that statistically analyzes the results and provides an overall interpretation. With manageable effort, this creates a robust picture of whether there is cause for reassurance or an increased need for action.

In terms of content, the Leadership Screening is based on the six forms of costly leadership: overregulation and underregulation, overdistribution and underdistribution, and overinstitutionalization and underinstitutionalization. It also assesses the extent to which leaders have a clear, appropriate, and stable idea of leadership. What may appear as very different problems in everyday leadership – such as overload, escalations, meeting burden, or bureaucracy – can thus be viewed from a shared perspective: Where is more attention being bound than is required for organizational ability to act?

Sample statements

Leaders indicate how strongly they agree with selected statements. Some statements show whether a clear idea of leadership is in place. Others reveal possible forms of costly leadership.

Statements directed at selected employees sound similar, but from the follower perspective.

We would not use a statement such as “Employees are actively involved in problem solving and decisions,” because it implies a particular idea of leadership that may be efficient for some leaders but not for others.

    Clarity instead of gut feeling

The Leadership Screening replaces assumptions and gut feeling with a structured and well-founded assessment. It provides a fast and substantive entry point into addressing leadership at the organizational level and is also a minimally invasive starting point for the Reflective Leader System.

Upon request, we offer an initial look at the Leadership Screening. The procedure can be tried out in advance from the perspective of leaders and employees. We also provide a sample report with fictitious data to make the results tangible.
